The season-ending ankle injuries will continue until morale improves.

Countless fantasy teams found themselves hamstrung, please pardon the pun, as the Week 3 slate played out. The vibes were decimated.

But we carry on! The fantasy season is long and at times grueling, and we love it because of those aspects. Or maybe in spite of them? Either way, the Optimus staff is here with what NFL Week 4 storylines they’re looking to learn from.

Friday Vibes: NFL Week 4 Storylines and 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook

I called it! I called it on the Monday Night Waiver Wire Show here on Optimus Fantasy. The New York Giants named Jaxson Dart their new starting quarterback in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was inevitable that head coach Brian Daboll would move away from Russell Wilson after his disastrous performance against the Chiefs this past Sunday night. This season, Wilson has only three touchdown passes and three interceptions. It’s obvious to anybody who watched him play this year: he’s cooked. The strangest part about Russ’s fantasy value this season is that he’s currently sitting at QB13. If you didn’t watch any Giants games this year, then you’d think he’s just having a rough start, and he makes a fine QB2 in fantasy football lineups. Needless to say, he’s not fine.

If Brian Daboll were a smart football head coach, then he would have named Jameis Winston the new starting quarterback. Unfortunately, that is not him. The decision to start Dart has desperation written all over it. Historically, the Giants have done this before with a rookie quarterback. When Daniel Jones was a rookie in 2019, head coach Pat Shurmur had him replace Eli Manning, who was then in decline, as the new starting quarterback in Week 3. Shurmur was fired anyway at the end of the year, when the Giants finished 4-12. This season, the Giants’ offensive line is performing poorly as a unit. I wish Jaxson Dart all the luck in the world, hoping he succeeds as their new starting quarterback. At least he has an elite wide receiver in Malik Nabers to help him out as his first read.

Heading into the weekend, I can’t help but feel like this season is flying by already. We’re finally at a point where we have the data to start seeing patterns emerge, make informed assessments, and solidify our takes and opinions on many players and team situations. As fun and fabulous as that all is, I’m here for the shootout in Los Angeles.

Danny Dimes, aka Indiana Jones, aka Daniel Jones, is still rolling, sitting at QB4 and is fourth in overall passing yards (816). Not to be outdone, RB Jonathan Taylor leads the league in rushing yards and is currently RB1 in half-PPR formats. On the other side of this matchup at SoFi Stadium, the Rams are loaded up with gunslinger Matthew Stafford and NFL target leader Puka Nacua

Both of these teams are early playoff contenders, to the surprise of many, and this weekend will tell us a lot about both squads. If you like high-scoring games with a lot of excitement, this one is going to be for you.

This is a BIG week for fantasy football that I think a lot of people don’t really know about. How so? I’m ecstatic you asked. Walk with me.

Prior to Week 4’s completion, preseason ADP is more predictive of how players perform over the course of a season than any other metric. However, once we have four games of data, that shifts, and those four weeks become the new standard. This, of course, is Week 4. We get to see a lot of narratives either start to die an all-too-often quick death, or become cemented for the 2025 season.

Are the Colts and Daniel Jones really real? Are the Chiefs actually bad (and could they actually miss the playoffs, which would make my Bills Mafia heart so very happy)? Is the Philadelphia passing game real or fake? Is Ladd McConkey really playing 3rd fiddle to Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen this year? The Raiders will get Ashton Jeanty untracked, right? Is Javonte Williams actually startable all year? So. Many. Narratives! And I am here for it.

Did we just witness the Luther Burden breakout game? It sure feels like it! I think Burden’s ceiling is higher than any WR in this rookie class, and despite having competition from D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze, I’m excited to see what this kid can do. We saw some big plays for him against the Cowboys’ lowly defense last week, and he gets a very beatable Raiders defense in week 4. I’m excited to see if his usage ticks up again this week.

Alright – let’s talk about the Houston Texans. Houston is sitting comfortably dead last in Points through the first three weeks. C.J. Stroud is struggling to get this offense rolling, so much so that he’s the 38th-ranked QB per PFF. His offensive line isn’t doing him or his running back room any favors. This Texans defense is great, but it hasn’t been good enough to support this disappointing offensive unit. We are lucky that Nico Collins is still helpful for fantasy, because no other pass catcher is getting it done. It’s a huge bummer to see both rookie wideouts fail to meet the moment in the first three weeks. Maybe a get-right game against the Titans can spark something in Stroud and the gang.
