Minnesota Vikings Fantasy 2026: Reading the Offseason Tea Leaves
Welcome to the thirteenth part of a thirty-two-part series: Reading the NFL Offseason Tea Leaves. Fantasy football tasseography is deeply rooted in predicting future fantasy fortunes. Some of the team tea cups we'll be looking into may be larger than others. The smallest of cups may have the most alluring blends of offensive weaponry, or be set to bloom after a long steep. This series will aid in your approach to Redraft and Dynasty leagues by bringing you up to date on:
- Free Agency
- Re-signings, additions, who signed elsewhere, and what it means for fantasy.
- NFL Draft
- What can we decipher about the direction a team is headed in based on their draft selections?
- Coaching Changes
- Who's in, who's out, and how do the coaching philosophies translate to fantasy production?
- Fantasy Fortunes
- What does this all mean for your fantasy football drafts?
Like tasseography, the arrangement of these four topics will vary as we digest each team's offseasons and see how the offensive pieces settle. Each article will interpret what the NFL team discussed here has told us about their future plans based on what they've done since their 2025 season ended.
Reading the Minnesota Vikings' 2026 Offseason
Free Agency Additions & Departures
The Vikings brought in QB Kyler Murray to compete for the starting job against J.J. McCarthy, signing Murray to a one-year $1.3M contract. Murray was once a highly touted prospect with multiple QB1 seasons under his belt. I'm still a believer in J.J. McCarthy, who has only played 10 NFL games in his career.
If you want to buy into the Vikings QB room, "Nine" is coming at a value with tremendous upside if he shows development this offseason and wins the Vikings QB1 role. If Head Coach Kevin O'Connell can work his magic, we might see this offense return fantasy gold in 2026. If not, it'll likely be fools' gold for us fantasy managers once again. Carson Wentz was re-signed in case anything goes really, really far south.
WR Jalen Nailor departed for the Raiders in free agency. This opening in the WR corps was filled by Jauan Jennings, who signed a one-year $8M contract. On paper, this is a very strong WR room with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Jennings. Let's hope someone can get them the ball.
Draft Day Additions
The Vikings drafted RB Demond Claiborne in the sixth round. He is a De'Von Achane archetype with slightly worse receiving and inside-running capabilities. Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason will likely dominate the backfield to start the year, but I'd expect Claiborne to work his way up the depth chart, and should injuries occur, he will have a chance to stake his claim as the heir apparent to Aaron Jones.
Justin Jefferson & the Vikings' Passing Game
Veteran WR Jefferson might become one of the most divisive Average Draft Positions (ADP) this offseason. While some in the community are expecting a bounce-back, others don't believe the QB room can elevate Jettas back to WR1 superstardom.
Personally, I bet on WR talent despite the QB - especially when they're as talented as Jefferson is. Maybe a top five finish is out of the question, but we know he's locked in for 140-plus targets.
This target volume should elevate his floor to a WR2 finish at worst with plenty of ceiling for a WR1 finish.
T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver will dominate TE usage. Hockenson looks to rebound from multiple poor campaigns. The Vikings took TE Max Bredeson in the draft, but he will play more of an H-back role.
Fantasy Fortunes
Look, Murray might not be the QB we wanted for the Vikings, but he's the one who's there to compete with McCarthy. There's a world where one of these Vikings QBs puts up a QB1 season this year, sustaining a WR1, WR3, RB2-3, and TE2. I have more confidence in Murray having the QB1 year in 2026, but believe in McCarthy long-term.
Veteran Jefferson is still an elite talent, and Murray might be the boost he needs to put up another elite fantasy season. I am a big fan of Claiborne, and he is cheap enough to acquire in the third round of dynasty rookie drafts with a path to RB1 upside. Recently, he's crept into the second round of rookie drafts as fantasy managers watch the tape and see a decrepit RB room with Jones and uninspiring Mason ahead of him on the depth chart.
